Netflix Ends Its Social-Networking Experiment

Two days after Apple (AAPL) added social-networking features to its iTunes online music store with great fanfare, subscription movie service Netflix (NFLX) quietly shut down its social-networking initiative. Users could share their movie-viewing activity and reviews with others and even let friends see the movies in their rental queues. They could send movie recommendations to friends through the Web site and “follow” like-minded Netflix subscribers. Plus, users could post top 10 lists of movies. On Friday, Netflix officially pulled the plug on the social-networking initiative.
